Preparing for Online/Remote Advising
COVID-19 has impacted instructional methods on campus and as a result will also impact advising procedures. We are still dedicated to ensuring students are able to be advised so that they can register starting in April.
Your advisor may use alternate methods to advise for the Summer and Fall 2020 semester utilizing phone advising, email advising, chat, or video conferencing. To prepare for online/remote advising as well as online instruction, we have developed the following tips and supporting information.
Remote Advising Checklist
This is the official means of communication from EKU and you should use it when communicating with faculty and staff.
You will need access to EKU Direct to see your Degree Works audit and Planner. To review the online schedule, to register for classes, and other important functions of the advising and registration process.

See a short video here on how to locate Degree Works and the Degree Works Planner. Your Advisor will likely add your classes and RAC number to the Degree Works Planner. MAKE SURE you use Internet Explorer browser to access.
If you are not sure who your Advisor is, you can email your Advisor directly from your Degree Works audit or you can access your Advisor information in EKU Direct

Check your holds in EKU Direct. (select “Student Services and Financial Aid”, select “Student Records”, select “View Holds”. IF you have a registration hold, you will not be permitted to register until the hold is resolved.
Many holds can be explained by the offices that added them see below for contact information for Student Accounting and The Registrar’s Office.
During Advising for Fall 2020, your advisor will be using alternative methods for meeting with you remotely. Make sure you are aware of how you will meet with your Advisor and prepare to have time/space available for the meeting.

- Email Advising
- Phone Advising
- VIdeo Conference Advising

Treat your online schedule like your in-person schedule – either sign in on time to synchronous courses or use that time block to work on your coursework
Allow more time than face to face courses for prep and mastery
Don’t be afraid to ask for help with online courses
